Today we celebrate the sale of one of the most significant modern performance cars ever produced, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series.
Black Series: A Different Breed
The Black Series variant elevated the SL65 AMG into a completely different category, it was not simply upgraded it was transformed.
Through extensive use of carbon fibre, the elimination of the standard SL ABC suspension and removal of the convertible roof the Black Series engineers were able to save roughly 250kg of weight over the standard SL65 AMG.
A wider track, adjustable coilover suspension and aggressive aerodynamic enhancements ensured the Black Series delivered exceptional precision and capability.
The hand built V12 also produced an astoninshing 661Hp with torque electronically limited to 1000nm. It is the only V12 black series ever produced and the iconic M275 engine formed the base motor for the Pagani Huayra.
Production was extremely limited, with just 350 units built globally, and only a small number produced in right-hand drive configuration, roughly 30 units. Making it one of the rarest modern AMG models ever created. It is and will most probably be the only V12 Black Series ever produced.
